You’ve rocked up to a Sonic drive-in, and now it’s time to make your order. You peruse the menu only to see their signature sauce. But what is it and what does it taste like? This is what you need to know before ordering!
So, what is sonic signature sauce? Sonic signature sauce is a blend of Sonic’s honey mustard and barbecue sauces. It is sweet, smoky, and savory in taste, and yellow/orange in color. This sauce was introduced in 2018, and is best eaten with crispy tenders, or used as a dipping sauce for the menus other snacks, and sides.
It’s a relatively new condiment on the menu.
And it’s definitely worth trying.
Besides, it just pairs so well with many options from the menu (as we shall soon see).
But first, let’s look at the taste!
What Does Sonic Signature Sauce Taste Like?
Sonic Signature sauce is both sweet and savory in flavor. It is relatively thick in consistency.
And this sauce is merely the combination of two other sauces on the fast-food chains restaurant – the honey mustard, and the BBQ.
But what do they taste like?
Well, the honey mustard has a delicious dijon finish, while the BBQ sauce provides a decent amount of smokiness and savouriness as distilled white vinegar is used quite liberally in the sauce.
And that gives you that perfect combination that is Sonic Signature sauce.

If you are interested in the nutritional content of this sauce, I’ve shared below the overview:
|– of which saturated||1g|
|– of which trans fat||0g|
|– of which sugar||8g|
So as you can see, there is a decent amount of fat and sugar in this sauce.
While that shouldn’t necessarily prevent you from consuming it, it does give you an idea of what to expect.
It’s quite a heavy sauce.
What Does Sonic Signature Sauce Go Well With?
Sonic Signature sauce goes best with Sonic’s snacks and sides, and when used as a dipping sauce for them. Nevertheless, there is no reason why you couldn’t add it to your cheeseburger, hot dog, coney, slinger, or sandwich.
For me, the best combination is with the crispy tenders.
That is what the sauce was brought out with, after all.
But from there, if you like the sound and idea of Sonic signature sauce, try it with:
- Mozzarella Sticks,
- Handmade Onion Rings,
- Ched ‘R’ Peppers,
- Soft Pretzel Twist,
- Jumbo Popcorn Chicken,

Just don’t get confused with signature cheese sauce – that’s actually different and a separate condiment on the menu.
You can probably guess the difference, but it is a little ‘creamier’ nonetheless.
Or, if you want their classic crave burger sauce, you can make that at home too with this recipe.
