What Happened To Hoffman House Cocktail Sauce?

Spread the love

Did you love the Hoffman House cocktail sauce but can no longer find it in your local store? Wondering what happened to it and if it is still available for purchase? Here is what you need to know.

So, what happened to Hoffman House Cocktail sauce? Hoffman house cocktail sauce was originally discontinued in 2019, as confirmed by the manufacturer behind the product Bay Valley Foods. However, the brand and recipe were purchased by Jump Start Foods in 2020, and production and distribution of the sauce are underway. Currently, it can be found in over 1100 stores in the upper-midwest, United States.

Why Bay Valley foods originally discontinued this sauce is actually unknown.

It was never publically announced, by Bay Valley Foods.

It could be due to various different reasons; an economic one or otherwise.

But a customer representative did confirm it back in 2019:

And while there has certainly been a knock-on effect and a period of time where this sauce has not been available, hopefully, things are starting to pick up.

And we hope so. Hoffman’s cocktail sauce was a widely popular one. Great with seafood and in particular, shrimp.

But all is not lost. Even if getting your hand on a bottle or two is a challenge at the moment.

Things will pick up, as we shall soon see.

Besides, you can always make your own version too with my simple recipe too.

But that’s still to come.

First, where may you currently be able to get your hands on this delicious sauce!

Where To Get Hoffman House Cocktail Sauce

Hoffman house cocktail sauce is currently available at Walmart and a range of select grocery stores – primarily in the upper-midwest region (Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota). This includes, but is not limited to stores such as Woodman’s, Piggly Wiggly, Pick n Save, Sendik’s, Hy-Vee, and Festival Food.

Since Jump Start Foods purchased the original recipe and packaging, there has been a keen desire and drive to ramp up production and get it back on store shelves.

And at time of writing, around 1161 stores stock it:

And if you head over to the Jump-Start Food interactive store finder, you can navigate to find your nearest store.

Whether or not the sauce will expand out from the upper-midwest is yet to be known.

But if they do, it will take time.

Thankfully, there are also plans to stock this popular sauce at Meijer.

This may make it a little easier to source (see what I did there).

Outside of stores, you can actually purchase Hoffman’s online too.

Perhaps the best place to find it is at Amazon.

It is a little pricey there though so you may want to make your own version yourself.

Let us now look at how to and what you need!

How To Make Your Own Cocktail Sauce Like Hoffmans

If you cannot visit a store that sells Hoffman’s cocktail sauce, or you are unwilling to pay more online, then making your own is a great option.

Thankfully, you only need a few ingredients, and you can have fresh cocktail sauce in a matter of minutes.

Simply mix the following ingredients together:

  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/8 to 1/4 cup prepared horseradish
  • Juice of one lemon
  • Dash of hot pepper sauce
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoons of worcestershire sauce

And you can make this fresh, each time you need it.

Or, simply mix some up and throw it in an airtight container.

Leave it in the fridge and enjoy it for up to 3-5 days.

Finally

Hoffman House Cocktail Sauce is back, despite a brief hiatus.

And thankfully, the original formula and packaging were bought too – so it really does feel like the real thing!

In many ways, it is.

And it still provides that delicious and perfected blend of tomatoes, onions, horseradish, and spices– all coming together to enhance both cooked seafood and shellfish delicacies.
