So, what is OG sauce? OG sauce is a sweet soy-based sauce that has notes of garlic and ginger. This is a signature sauce of Poke Bros, with its own secret recipe, and is not available for purchase anywhere other than as part of a meal at this restaurant chain.
So, it’s all a little bit vague.
Well, purposefully so.
In truth, the only way to know for sure if you like it and what it tastes like is to try one of the bowls yourself.
That being said, would this popular and ever-growing Hawaiin-inspired eatery really put this sauce in all of their sushi bowls, as standard, if it weren’t any good?
What Is OG Sauce Made Of?
OG sauce is made from a base of soy sauce. It also is known to contain ginger and garlic. However, the rest of the ingredients are a secret; the restaurant does not publically disclose the other ingredients.
That being said, due to its sweetness, the sauce also likely has either sugar, a sugar alternative, or a honey base too.
The one thing we do know is that OG sauce is gluten-free and vegan friendly.
So, we know that it does not contain wheat, nor any meat based-ingredients.
What Does OG Sauce Taste Like?
OG sauce is sweet, savoury, with a subtle hint of heat. It is very flavoursome and a little tends to go a long way.
At the same time, this sauce is very versatile, and pairs nicely with a range of different seafood and vegetables; from salmon and tuna all the way through to shrimp.

And while we don’t know what is really in this sauce or why its even called OG (could it be in reference to being truly exceptional, authentic or original/old school) of which all definitions could apply), it is one you absolutely should try.

One final thing to note, there is another company selling “OG Hot Sauce”.
It’s not the same and they are not affiliated.
Instead they sell an onion and garlic hot sauce, that is both hot and spicy or mild depending on the version you opt for.
While you might like the sound of it and may want to give it a try, it’s not a Poke Bros creation.
It’s not what you would get with your sushi bowl – even if there appears to be somewhat of an overlap between the two.
